The new series spotlights The Jonas Group’s pop band, Savvy.
MIAMI, November 4, 2010 – HBO Latin America announced that new tween series “The Wannabes Starring Savvy” will premiere on HBO Family on Thursday, November 11, 2010. The 26-episode pilot season follows six high school students and the outrageous adventures they encounter while living out their musical dream of topping the pop charts. Savvy, the actual recording band, is managed by The Jonas Group – the same entity representing such talents as the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and Jordin Sparks.

Created by Doreen Spicer-Dannelly, “The Wannabes Starring Savvy” centers on a group of talented teens on the road to stardom, despite the challenges posed by their upscale arts academy. Upon being punished for performing in the student lounge and sentenced to working for free at a local café, the students turn, what was supposed to be detention, into the opportunity of a lifetime. With the help of the café owner’s daughter, who likewise shares the dream of becoming a singing sensation, the kids land their first local venue for rocking out.
Although Mr. Moody (Steven J. Scott), owner of Moody’s Sweet Shop café, obliges the group to wear different costumes to promote his latest fruit smoothie creations, the band is a huge hit. While the biggest obstacle for these wannabe pop stars is balancing academics with weekly performances, keeping their concerts secret from nosy Principal Pesckow (David LaDuca) also proves a difficult, yet often comical, predicament.
The members of true-to-life pop band, Savvy, comprise the six Wannabe roles: Shaylen Carroll, Gabrielle LeMaire, Mariah Parks, Alan Shaw, Drew Reinartz and Andrew Stern. Since 2004, Savvy has performed over 400 live concerts from coast-to-coast in the United States, including headlining the Radio Disney’s “Feeling Groovy” tour. Each episode of “The Wannabes” will feature an original Savvy music video.

Los Angeles, CA (September 14, 2010) – Stern-LeMaire Productions is pleased to announce that Sears Holdings (SHC) has aligned with Savvy from "The Wannabes Starring Savvy” to collaborate on selective retail and other projects in the United States for their Kmart and Sears branded retail outlets. SHC will be working with “The Wannabes Starring Savvy” on brand integration, tour sponsorship, exclusive merchandise and retail promotions.
“We are excited to be the first corporate collaborator to join ‘The Wannabes Starring Savvy.’ The property represents great family entertainment and quality musical content. Savvy will kick off with a performance and meet and greet with fans at two Kmart locations in Michigan during the month of September. The first performance will take place on September 18th from 1:00-3:00 PM at Kmart in Bloomfield Hills, MI (2101 South Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302). Savvy’s subsequent performance and meet and greet will be held on September 24th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Ann Arbor, MI Kmart (215 North Maple Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48103).

The television series, created by Doreen Spicer Dannelly, recently wrapped its second season in Detroit and currently airs on ABC3 in Australia, and Noga Channel in Israel. After the principal catches the group performing in the student lounge, he sentences them to one week of detention – working for free at a local café. Fortunately for these wannabe pop stars, the daughter of the café owner shares their same dreams and talks her dad into letting the academy students rock out at the café, as long as she can join the group. He agrees, but has his own ideas of how to use their musical talents for his own profit, making them wear costumes to promote his latest smoothie creations. Fruit attire and all, the band is a hit, and they are booked to perform every week.
During the season, The Wannabes will learn to balance their high school studies with their secret life as performing artists. The six singers get into outrageous situations as they try to climb their way to the top of the pop charts, all while hiding their identity from the principal. Each episode will feature an original Savvy exclusive music video.
